Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the program?

The camps begin Sunday evening at 5 pm and run through Friday noon. After you get checked in, we will all go out on the Houseboat and have a big turkey dinner on the river and watch some of the Webfooter waterski show. After we eat, we’ll go out and take a set before dark. Monday and Tuesday we start riding at 9 AM, we’ll take 2 sets in the morning and 2 after lunch. Wednesday we’ll wakeboard for the morning session, and take the afternoon off to relax and rest sore muscles, or go on a whitewater canoe trip. Thursday we ride all day, and Friday until 11am. You will not only learn new skills at the camp but you will learn how to coach yourself and others while having fun and making new friends.

Am I good enough to attend?

We’ve had many people come to the camp that have never water-skied or tried wakeboarding. As a beginner it is better to learn things the right way before you have time to build bad habits. The learning curve is much faster for beginners; at the end of the week many people can’t believe how much they have progressed.

How much does it cost? Whats included?

The 6-day camp costs $1150 per person, the 2-week camp costs $2300 per person, and the 3-week camp costs $3450 per person, the camps include home-cooked meals, and lodging. The 3 day camp cost is $725. The half-day camps cost $150 per person and the full-day camps are $240 per person.

Basically everything that you will need for the week is included in the price. Lodging on a 46' houseboat or Brand new Lakeside Log cabin. We cook three full meals each day, and always leave the fridge open for snacks in between. If you don’t have equipment to use don’t worry, we have almost every 2013 Hyperlite pro model board, and bindings available.

What to bring letter?

Yes we do, but just in case, here is a copy of it.
2008 WHAT TO BRING LETTER.

When do the camps start? Fort Fremont Tournaments?

The first week of wakeboard camp starts Sunday June 15th, and continues every following Sunday through the end of August.

A lot of students like to come to camp during weeks when Fort Fremont holds local grassroots wakeboard tournaments.
June 17th , July 15th , and August 5th .

Where are you located?

We are located in Fremont Wisconsin, which is about 3 hours north of Chicago, or ½ hour west of Appleton.  We are just off Interstate HWY 10, and are right next door to the award winning Yogi Bear Camp Resort.

Is there adult supervision?

Gordy, Rhonda, Joey, and Megan are on site 24 hours a day to keep an eye on things.

What if I’m the only beginner, girl, adult, etc.?

This rarely happens, but if it does, after everyone settles in and spends time out riding with each other; skill level, age or gender doesn’t seem to matter anymore. Everyone at the camp begins to realize they are there for the same reason, a love for wakeboarding. Many students stay in touch after the camp and remain friends.

What if I don’t have a wakeboard?

That’s no problem, Fort Fremont Marine offers the camp all the new, Hyperlite Pro model boards to use at no cost.

How is the river for wakeboarding?

We ride on a 13-mile stretch of the Wolf River that is wind protected, deep, and absolutely perfect for wakeboarding. I’ve ridden on other lakes and rivers all across the country and I don’t think any of them can compare to what we have here in Fremont.

Do you pay your instructors?

This may sound like a weird question, but many wakeboard camps don’t pay their instructors in exchange for giving them riding time. Besides being stingy, there are lots of problems with this:

  • High instructor turnover.
  • Instructors are never taught properly how to coach.
  • They only care about there riding, not yours.

I have been coaching wakeboarders for 17 years and personally train each of our instructors to be an effective coach. It may cost a little more, but it’s worth it.

Do we get to ride in the boat while other people at the camp wakeboard?

Yeah, being in the boat to watch others ride not only builds friendships, but also helps you improve your own riding. When you watch someone land a trick for the first time it gets everyone in the boat psyched and gives motivation for your own riding. By riding in the boat, you’ll also learn techniques to coach people at different skill levels. Avoid camps where you sit on the dock all day waiting to get picked up for your turn.

What will I learn?

We stress teaching the basics of wakeboarding such as proper edging, release and pop off the wake, and basic 180’s. Once you master these areas it will be so much easier to learn various inverts and spins. It’s also a good idea to have some tricks in mind that you would like to learn so we can work towards that goal.

Where is the nearest Airport?

Outagamie county airport in Appleton (ATW) is the nearest airport that handles most of the well known commercial airlines. The airport is about a 20 minute drive from Fremont, we can arrange to pick you up at ATW at no extra charge. Just email or fax us a copy of your itinerary and we’ll pick you up.

What time does camp start and end?

Camp starts at 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, and ends Friday 12 p.m.

What is the houseboat like?

The houseboat is awesome.  We take it out on Sunday evenings with everyone and have dinner out on the river, followed with some swimming and wakeboarding.  The boat sleeps four, with two bunk beds in the back half of the boat.  The living room is in the front part of the boat, with a fridge, kitchen sink and stove, TV, and the front porch.
